12 Ways of Chiro Christmas
A Christmas Chiro
In the deep midwinter, we need to look after our bodies in different ways to the summer months. We’re more likely to feel aches and pains, as our bodies restrict blood flow to extremities, to maintain the temperature in our core.
So in the spirit of Christmas carols written in verse, we’re offering you some hints and tips to get through the festive season.
On the 1st day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Stop, don’t drop!
When you’re out there Christmas shopping,
don’t be doing it til you’re dropping!
Heavy bags will take their toll
as round and round the shops you stroll.
Balance your load to keep you aligned
and stop for breaks, take your time.
If you’re buying on the net
stand up often…don’t forget!
On the 2nd day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Wrap properly!
We ask you in this festive fable
to wrap your presents on a table.
Taping and tying on the floor
will strain your back more and more.
Stand to wrap and watch TV
with an ironing board, maybe?
One more thing: remember, please –
don’t do it all on Christmas Eve!
On the 3rd day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Ask for help!
Before you dig out all your decs
Stop and think for just a sec.
Is there someone you could ask
to help you with this hefty task?
They’re likely stored in awkward places
So make it jolly, with social graces.
And after Christmas, pack them away
in smaller boxes, so less they weigh.
On the 4th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Bend with care!
When hanging baubles you must know
what to do when bending low.
Pick them from a medium height –
a coffee table seems just right.
If your things are on the floor,
please remember: use your core.
Treat it like you’re at the gym
doing squats to keep you trim!
On the 5th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Manage your stress!
Lots of people coming to visit
is so much part of festive spirit.
It’s always fun, of course, unless
you’re racing round and feeling stressed.
It’s your holiday, do what it takes
to keep on smiling, for everyone’s sake.
Deep breaths, baths, meditate –
and most of all…delegate!
On the 6th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Don’t ignore pain!
If from us you need some help,
don’t leave it til pain makes you yelp.
Each appointment keeps your spine
and other joints aligned.
Although you’re busy, make those dates
to keep your bits and pieces straight.
This will help you cope for sure,
and mean more pain you won’t endure.
On the 7th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Travel in style!
Planes, trains and automobiles…
Travel can be a big deal.
The three wise men for sure took breaks
to stretch their legs and prevent aches.
When you get there, a lousy bed
Is something that we all must dread.
Stretches stop you getting stiff,
and take your pillow, if it fits.
On the 8th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Leave your sofa!
Nothing beats a pyjama day,
to recharge after too much play.
But too much sitting puts a strain
even on a healthy frame.
So enjoy your movies, take your rest,
then play charades with all your guests…
Put on music, be merry and dance –
just move your body at every chance.
On the 9th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Get outside!
Being outside boosts your mood
and helps you walk off all that food.
Sunlight gives you Vitamin D
and fills your heart and soul with glee.
So walk the dog or ride your bike,
put on your boots and take a hike.
Wrap up warm so you feel nice,
and careful now, don’t slip on ice!
On the 10th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Enjoy a drink!
When we say eat, drink, be merry,
we think of cocktails with a cherry.
But what we mean is stay hydrated,
and water can’t be overrated.
It helps your muscles move more freely
and digestion is improved – yes, really!
So drink three litres every day
to keep all kinds of aches at bay.
On the 11th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Cook over time!
If Christmas dinner you prepare,
do make sure the chores are shared.
Whether you’re roasting traditional turkey
or doing something much more quirky,
bend your knees, engage your core
before you open the oven door.
And when composing Christmas wishes,
write: someone else can do the dishes!
On the 12th day of Christmas, my chiro said to me:
Feel gratitude!
Life isn’t perfect, that is true
No matter what you try to do.
Yet with a heartfelt attitude,
what you feel is gratitude.
Presents come tied up with bows,
but being present makes you glow.
At this season of goodwill,
we hope that you will feel fulfilled.
